Away
Description:
Medium & Materials: Japanese sumi-ink on handmade washi paper, created using marble cut-offs as stamps/brushes to imprint texture and trace weight.
Dimensions: A4 (approx. 21 × 29.7 cm)
About the Work:
“Away” emerges from my ongoing investigation of materialitya dialogue between rigid marble and the unpredictable flow of ink. By pressing marble fragments onto delicate washi, the ink is forced through micro-grooves, leaving behind organic textures that reflect both control and chance.
Why This Piece Matters:
The use of marble cut-offs ties this drawing to my sculptural practice, hinting at the raw material, weight, and heritage of the stone you usually see in my three-dimensional work.
The Japanese ink and washi bring contrast, evoking a sense of depth and subtlety that complements heavier materials.
It’s a one-of-a-kind original, signed and dated, not a print or reproduction.
Collector’s Note:
Owning “Away” is not just acquiring an image, but a piece of my broader sculptural and material journey. It stands as a standalone artwork and also as a conceptual sketch within a larger body of stone, glass, and interplay between materials.
Presentation / Shipping:
Will ship flat and well-protected (board + acid-free tissue + rigid envelope or custom crate for larger works). I am available for framed-in-glass presentation upon request (shipping + framing cost additional).
