Thedro-Δέντρο

Open Call for Artists
Exhibition Title: Thedro (Δέντρο)
Location: Anargyrios & Korgialenios School of Spetses Foundation, Spetses, Greece
Exhibition Dates: August 18–24, 2025
Application Deadline: July 4th, 2025

We invite artists working in all mediums to submit work for Thedro (Δέντρο), an upcoming group exhibition that explores the family tree as both a literal and metaphorical structure. Taking its name from the Greek word for “tree,” the exhibition delves into the complex relationships between ancestry, memory, and identity, inviting reflection on how our roots continue to shape who we are.

Inspired by ancient Greek ideas of lineage (γενεαλογία), myth, and heritage, Thedro draws on the rich tradition of genealogical storytelling, from divine origins in Hesiod’s Theogony to modern reimagining of family history. In ancient times, these connections were more than personal, they were civic, spiritual, and cultural foundations.

Today, contemporary artists are reclaiming and reshaping these narratives, confronting inherited legacies, reconstructing fragmented memories, and imagining new mythologies for the self and community.

We welcome submissions from artists whose work engages with themes such as:
– Family history, ancestry, and heritage
– Myth-making and storytelling
– Memory, loss, and generational transmission
– Identity, diaspora, and cultural belonging
– Re-rooting and re-connecting to origins
